2013-2014 Northwest School of the Arts:
Battle of the Books Zone Winners!
When I arrived at my school in 2004, there was no Battle of the Books team. I worked to cultivate an exciting and fun reading experience in which students came to the Media Center and generated questions to demonstrate understanding of the books, as well as actively participate in preparation for the competition.
I enjoyed Battle of the Books so much, that I joined the state Battle of the Books committee in which I helped select books and write questions for the state competitions. The first year, my students came in last. Since then, I have had two teams advance to the regional competition after winning the district level.
